Wednesdays and Thursdays 10:30-11 AM  – Fun-filled half hour with stories, songs, games, and crafts. Geared toward children ages 3-6.

  • Wilson Park is located in the heights area of town, nestled in a pleasant neighborhood offering swings, a jungle gym, and picnic tables.
  • Jackson Park  is also located within a neighborhood and hosts “Families in the Park” and “Movies in the Park” during the summer season, offering music, bathrooms, picnic tables, and walking distance from the public pool.
  • Hood River Children’s Park is located just above downtown and is a wood park paradise. It also provides restrooms, open lawn area and a covered basketball court.
  • Hood River Waterfront Park – Located on the beautiful Hood River Waterfront, this park is sure to provide an afternoon of fun for the whole family. Complete with a rock climbing structure, play ground area, beach area, restrooms, and pavilions. The waterfront park also provides a walking path beside the water with benches and viewpoints along the way.

More Children Activities to Enjoy in Hood River

Mt. Hood Railroad is exactly what it sounds like: a fully functioning railroad station that will take you and your family on a thrilling train ride around the area. Mt. Hood Railroad rides are among some of the most popular activities to enjoy anytime of the year. The spring season shows trees starting to bloom again after the cold winter. The fall season contrasts many different colors of red, orange, and yellow leaves. The winter season is especially enjoyable as the train crew are all fully decked out in holiday attire. Each train ride is approximately 4.5 hours in length. You will never be bored, as Matt the Maverick will try and stop the train until the heroic sheriff steps in to save the day. Specific train rides held throughout the year include the Western Robbery Train Ride, The Polar Express, and Thomas the Train Ride. One of the stops will be in Parkdale, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch at the local park. Tickets start at just $30 per child and $35 for adult for this half day ride around the Pacific Northwest.

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is more than a tourist attraction; it is a beautiful landscape that makes the Pacific Northwest such a beautiful locale anytime of the year. The gorge will take you and your family to the 4,000-foot-deep canyon that runs from Washington down to southern Oregon. While most national parks require a lengthy drive to get to, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is just outside of Hood River. Your children will love to spend time outdoors and won’t even ask to play games on your phone! You can access the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area by crossing over the river and heading east on the 14.

Mike’s Ice Cream is a local staple for delicious ice cream perfect after any meal of the day. This local legend is located in the downtown neighborhood nearby many restaurants that offer kid’s menus and cuisine they will actually enjoy such as Solstice. We guarantee you will not be able to just stop by once after you have experienced Mike’s Ice Cream. Additional cold treats can be found right in town by visiting Cicci’s Gelato and The Local Grind.

Going hiking during your stay in Hood River should be an absolute priority. If the Gorge did not win you over, several other local trails surely will. Check out the Tamawanas Fall Trail or the Umbrella Falls Trail for beautiful waterfalls and easy hikes the kids will surely enjoy.
