We love Phelps Creek for its laid-back nature and the beauty of its rolling hills. The tasting room is small and elegant, and we love that it’s located on the Hood River Golf Course. Read more about Phelps Creek Vineyards below:
A Passion for Wines
Founder Robert Morus, a former pilot, grew up in California with a fascination and appreciation for the winemaking process. He grew up in California when the state’s wine production was getting a lot of media attention. After living for a time in Chicago, Morus and his wife began searching for a new home on the West Coast, and Portland, being close to a new airport, was a great option. Morus planted his first grapes in 1990.
Morus and vintner Alexandrine Roy pride themselves on producing wines from a small crop. Phelps Creek Winery is 34 acres of pinot noir, pinot gris and chardonnay. The vineyard is named for nearby Phelps Creek, a tributary of the Columbia River. The creek begins as a lake between the vineyards and Mount Defiance. The creek is named for a cooper who built barrels along the lower portion of the creek.
